Reds put Edmonds on DL

08/24/2010 - San Francisco, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cincinnati Reds have placed outfielder Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.

Edmonds, who the Reds acquired from Milwaukee earlier this month, has batted 3-for-22 (.136) in nine games with Cincinnati. He has batted .272 with nine home runs and 23 doubles in 82 games overall this season.

In additional moves, the Reds recalled infielder Chris Valaika and pitcher Sam LeCure from Triple-A Louisville, and optioned pitcher Jordan Smith to Louisville.

Smith has posted a 3.67 earned-run average and one save in 27 appearances this season, his first in the majors. LeCure, also a rookie, went 1-4 with a 4.86 ERA in six starts earlier this season.

Valaika, a third-round draft choice in 2006, has yet to make his major league debut.
